DENTON - The UNT men's basketball team cruised to a 79-50 home win over Angelo State on Sunday afternoon. It's largest victory of the season so far and its second straight 25-point-plus victory.
The Mean Green won with another strong shooting performance as four different North Texas players scored in double figures against the Rams. North Texas was led by Aaron Scott who scored a game-high 14 points. Jason Edwards added 12 points as he knocked down three 3-pointers in the win.
Moulaye Sissoko scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds in 19 minutes as UNT finished with a season-high 42 rebounds as a team.
Sunday's win was UNT's 11th straight home win.Â
"Our guys have a lot of respect for Angelo State and coach Patel and I think we started the game today with that and it helped us lock in," said head coach Ross Hodge. "I loved how unselfish we were today, making the extra pass, and looking to get everyone involved."
"We have a lot of different guys who can put the ball in the basket and I think that showed today," he added.Â
Eleven different North Texas (4-2) players on Sunday scored a basket and 12 different players grabbed a rebound. UNT, though, didn't just flex its scoring ability but also its defense. The Mean Green held the Rams' (3-1) leading scorer Kevon Goodwin to zero points on 0-of-8 shooting.Â
Then down the stretch with their second unit in, the Mean Green held Angelo State to just four points in the final five minutes of the game.
One of the best defensive performances on Sunday was from senior Robert Allen who in just 13 minutes of action had two steals and two blocks.Â
"Our defensive intensity and sharing the ball today was outstanding," Hodge said.Â
The Mean Green are off until Saturday Dec. 2 when they host Mississippi Valley at the Super Pit. The game is scheduled to tip at 1 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network.Â
