CHARLOTTE — The UNT men's basketball team is in the Queen City for its final regular season road game of the year looking to set two records.
The Mean Green (23-5, 14-3) can set the single season program record for regular season wins (24) and road wins (10) with a victory over the 49ers (16-11, 7-9) Thursday night.
The game is scheduled to tipoff at 6 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield on the Varsity Network app.
North Texas heads into Thursday's contest riding a league-leading eight-game winning streak. It's the nation's seventh longest active winning streak and the fifth time in the Grant McCasland era the Mean Green have won at least eight straight.
A key to UNT's success has been the growth of its offense. During its eight-game winning streak, North Texas is shooting nearly 52 percent from the field. In the 19 games prior to this winning streak, the Mean Green shot 40.9 percent as a team.
Senior newcomer Kai Huntsberry has been the catalyst to this offensive explosion for North Texas. Huntsberry is averaging nearly six more points per game and shooting close to 60 percent. The guard is dishing out more assists and turning it over less as well.
North Texas has won four of the last five versus the 49ers, including a 24-point win at home on Feb. 11, 67-43. Thursday will be UNT's first trip to Halton Arena since March of 2020. It was the last game before the COVID-19 pandemic ended the season.
Thursday's game is North Texas' only game of the week. They'll end the regular season with a pair of home games starting on March 2 versus Middle Tennessee and then March 4 versus WKU at the Super Pit.
