Wagoner Wins Conference USA Pitcher of the Week

DALLAS – McKenzie Wagoner earned Conference USA Pitcher of the Week honors after she recorded two complete-game wins at Louisiana Tech, the league announced on Monday.
"McKenzie absolutely deserves the honor," head coach Rodney DeLong said. "She put us on her back Friday night when we didn't hit well and came back on Sunday with another gritty performance."
Wagoner totaled 18.0 innings with 14 strikeouts and a 0.78 ERA in the opening series of the C-USA schedule for UNT. She allowed two earned runs on nine hits and seven walks to suppress the Lady Techsters to a .145 opponent batting average. In Friday's 3-1 extra-inning victory, Wagoner tallied career-high marks of 11.0 innings pitched, 13 strikeouts and 169 pitches.
She is the second UNT pitcher to be awarded the weekly honor this season after Ashley Peters won on Feb. 13. For the season, Wagoner holds a 6-1 record with 54.0 innings pitched, 51 strikeouts, 1.30 ERA while limiting opposing hitters to a league best .163 batting average.
The Mean Green return to Denton for a doubleheader on Tuesday against Texas A&M-Commerce beginning at 4 p.m. at Lovelace Stadium. UNT softball fans can purchase tickets HERE.
