Softball Defeats UTSA 4-1 on Friday

DENTON – McKenzie Wagoner recorded her seventh win of the season as UNT softball defeated UTSA 4-1 at Lovelace Stadium on Friday.
The Mean Green (17-9, 3-1) tallied three runs in the bottom of the third inning, including a two-RBI double by Rylee Nicholson to carry her team to the victory. North Texas collected its 13th consecutive home win over the Roadrunners (6-20, 2-2) despite being outhit 7-4 in the contest. Friday's victory marks the first win of the season when UNT is outhit by its opponent.
Wagoner (W, 7-1) tallied 7.0 innings with six strikeouts and gave up only one run on seven hits and three walks. Along with the North Texas defense, she was able to strand 10 runners on base. UTSA finished 1-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
Kailey Gamble recorded a 2-for-3 evening with an RBI single in the first inning to open the scoring. The Mean Green hold a 15-3 record when striking first and 3-0 in Conference USA play.
Kalei Christensen notched career hit No. 100 on an RBI single up the middle in the third inning to give North Texas a 2-1 lead.
