Offensive Explosion Leads Softball to 15-3 Win

North Texas offense totals the third-most runs in Rodney DeLong era on Saturday
Rylee Nicholson hit her first career grand slam in the bottom of the fourth inning. She finished 1-for-2 with three runs scored and two walks. Over the past six games, Nicholson leads the team with a .533 batting average with seven runs, seven RBI, two home runs and two doubles.
North Texas (18-9, 4-1) collected 12 walks in the contest which is the highest total since Feb. 8, 2020. The Roadrunners (6-21, 2-3) committed four errors in the game and extended its losing streak in Denton to 14 games.
Skylar Savage (W, 5-2) tallied the win with 4.0 innings pitched and one strikeout. She allowed two earned runs on five hits and one walk. The victory marked the 20th of Savage's career and she moved into sole possession of 10th place on the UNT career leaderboard.
North Texas accepted half of its walks, six, in the home half of the first inning and scored four runs with zero hits to take a 4-1 lead.
The Mean Green countered a pair of Roadrunner runs in the third inning with seven of its own after batting around the order in the bottom of the frame. Mikayla Smith, Cierra Simon, Lexi Cobb and Kalei Christensen all deposited RBI hits in the inning to push the lead to 11-3 after four.
Nicholson's grand slam in the fourth pushed the game out of reach to cap the score at 15-3.
