NORMAN, Okla. - UNT junior Vicente Marzilio began play in the NCAA Norman Regional on Monday, shooting a 1-over 73 to enter Tuesday's second round in a tie for 35th with 36 holes remaining. The top individual not on one of the advancing teams will advance to the NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Arizona, on May 26-May 31.
Marzilio was 2-over on the front nine and 1-under on the back nine with birdies on 11, 13 and 16.
The Argentina native earned an at-large bid and entered the tournament as the fourth-seeded individual.
"Vicente striped the ball today," UNT head coach Brad Stracke said. "He had a few three-putts and lost a couple of shots chipping around the green but showed a lot of character fighting for every shot today. Vicente is in great shape, and there is a lot of golf left to be played."
Marzilio will tee off at 9:50 a.m., on Tuesday, and will be paired with Louisiana's Jake Marler and Arkansas-Pine Bluff's Angel Perez for the second round.
