DENTON - New UNT men's golf coach Luke Calcatera will carry a roster of 14 into the upcoming season after adding four experienced players via the transfer portal.
Along with two incoming freshmen who signed prior to Calcatera's hiring, last year's holdovers will be joined by Key Coker (DBU), Preston Holmes (Cameron), Harry Lord (Lincoln Memorial) and Dawson Meek (Missouri).
Coker was a two-year letterman at Texas high school powerhouse Highland Park and a member of the 2021 Class 5A state championship team before posting four top-20 finishes as a freshman and six more as a sophomore, with five top-10 finishes, including two straight wins to end the year at the Rattler Invitational and DBU Men's Classic. His season stroke average for the 2022-23 season was a 71.89.
Holmes, who hails from League City, Texas, played his first four seasons of collegiate golf at Cameron. Last season as a junior he had seven top-20 showings including four in the top 10 and posted a 72.76 scoring average. He was named Aggie of the Year as a freshman and was an all-LSC Tournament performer.
Lord, from Lancashire, England, began his college career at ULM before transferring to Lincoln Memorial after his freshman campaign, and will be transferring to UNT with one year of eligibility remaining. For the Railsplitters, Lord was a PING NCAA DII All-American honorable mention selection and posted a 73.34 scoring average as a senior this past season, following two straight years of sub-73.00 scoring averages.
Meek, who hails from Springfield, Missouri, joins the Mean Green from Missouri, where he played two years for the Tigers after redshirting as a freshman. As a redshirt freshman, he played six rounds for the Tigers and shot four under par, while also qualifying for the travel roster for both the SEC Championship and the NCAA Regional. Last year as a sophomore, he posted a 74.18 scoring average and had a season-best finish of T24 at the Turning Stone Invitational through six events.
"We are very excited to add this talented group of guys to UNT," Calcatera said. "Adding two graduate students in Preston Holmes and Harry Lord and two juniors in Dawson Meek and Key Coker to our lineup will immediately increase our experience level and add depth to our team. Key Coker and Preston Holmes are both high character people from Texas that are ready for this opportunity, and I can't wait to see what they will accomplish this year."
The Mean Green will kick off the Calcatera era on Sept. 3-4, at the Island Resort Intercollegiate in Harris, Michigan.
