Jim West Challenge
Kissing Tree Golf Club | San Marcos, TX
The UNT women's golf team is heading down I-35 to close the fall season at the event head coach Michael Akers started when he was the head coach at Texas State.
Â
THE EVENT: Kissing Tree Golf Club will play as a par-72 course at 6,123 yards. The teams will play 36 holes on Sunday before concluding on Monday with the final 18 holes. Both days will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
ON THE TUBE: The event will be broadcast on ESPN+, with the Sunday broadcast beginning at 10 a.m. and running through 3 p.m., before the entire final round will be shown on Monday.
Â
THE FIELD:Â There are 12 teams participating in the tournament: Houston, Nebraska, New Mexico, Northern Illinois, Ohio State, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas State, Texas Tech, UNLV, UNT and UTSA.
Â
REPRESENTING UNT: Competing for the Mean Green will be Mason Lewis, Bouquet Subsomboon, Malisone Chanthapanya, Mallorie Luitwieler and Katharina Anglett.
Â
RESULTS: Live scoring and final results will be posted on Clippd Scoreboard. A full recap will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of each day.
 Â
AKERS SAYS: "This is an exciting weekend for our team and for me personally," Akers said. "I started the Jim West Challenge back when I coached at Texas State and the event has gained a tremendous reputation. Our players will have a great experience at this event.
"Kissing Tree was not built when I was coaching in San Marcos, but I have done research and feel we have prepared the best we can. Mason and Bouquet showed some great things in Chicago and now Mali will step in and take the place of Shreya (Pal), who is out for the fall. Kat has been working hard on her short game, and I'm glad Mallorie is in the lineup again."
MOVING UP: UNT has made significant strides since Akers took over nine years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green are now consistently ranked in the top 50 nationally and have qualified for four straight NCAA Regionals - the only active AAC team with at least four consecutive NCAA berths.
UP NEXT:Â The Mean Green will take a break before beginning the spring season with a match against Houston on Jan. 19, and making the return to tournament competition at the Puerto Rico Classic on Feb. 2-4.
Â
NEW FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to have the new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, which is a $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
