Tommisha Lampkin scored a game-high 25 points in the loss
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – A fourth-quarter rally came up just short as UNT women's basketball fell on the road to Santa Clara, 63-58, Sunday afternoon.
Despite shooting 24.6% as a team for the game, the Mean Green (7-3) found themselves hanging around late in the second half. Trailing 47-34 at the end of the third quarter, UNT outscored the Broncos 24-16 in the fourth quarter cutting the deficit to as small as two points on a Kyla Deck and-one play with 30 seconds remaining.
However, the Broncos wouldn't allow North Texas an opportunity to strike as Kaya Ingram knocked down six consecutive free throws down the stretch to seal the game.
While the Mean Green as a whole struggled to find the bottom of the net for the majority of the game, that was not the case for Tommisha Lampkin who had a game-high 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting. The senior forward also grabbed eight rebounds and is now a pair of boards shy of 700 in her career and moving into program's top five for career rebounds.
Kyla Deck was the only other UNT player to reach double figures, posting 11 points to go along with four steals.
UNT's defense was a large factor in its ability to cut into the Broncos lead late in the game. Santa Clara turned the ball over 21 times to UNT's nine, and North Texas held them without a basket for the final 4:37 of game time.
UNT will return home to close out the nonconference portion of its schedule with a pair of games. The Mean Green will host SMU on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT before welcoming Chicago State to The Super Pit Saturday at 3 p.m. CT.
