DENTON — The UNT men's basketball team closed its non conference slate with a 62-46 win over Houston Christian on Sunday at the Super Pit.
Moulaye Sissoko recorded his second career double-double in the win, picking up 10 points and 10 rebounds, which were both season highs. Johnathan Massie led the Mean Green (9-3) in points with 14. Jasper Floyd surpassed 200 career assists in the contest as he tallied two.
"We talked about how these games are kind of character games — right before a holiday," head coach Ross Hodge said. "Usually there's one team that's a little more dialed into the game, maybe already thinking about what's next. I thought our guys did a good job [and] came into this morning's shootaround [and] had really good looks on their face and were intent on coming out and winning the game."
North Texas led wire-to-wire, taking a 30-23 lead into halftime. Houston Christian (4-9) remained within single digits until the 15:11 mark of the second half when Atin Wright hit a 3-pointer to make it a 44-32 game.
From that point, the Mean Green maintained a double-digit lead and cruised to the victory.
North Texas opens American Athletic Conference play on Dec. 31 at 3 p.m. versus reigning conference tournament champions UAB. The contest will be held at the Super Pit and broadcasted nationally on ESPN U and on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield.
