The Chevron Collegiate
Golf Club of Houston | Humble, Texas
The UNT women's golf team will head to the Houston area to the site of one of the best showings in program history last season in the formerly named ICON Invitational.
Â
THE EVENT: Golf Club of Houston will play as a par-72 course at 6,125 yards. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday and will play the final 18 holes during Tuesday's final round. Each day will feature a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
Â
THE FIELD:Â There are 17 teams participating in the tournament, including 13 teams ranked in the top 60 and nine in the top 50: Furman, No. 29 Houston, Illinois, Indiana, No. 48 Iowa State, No. 44 Maryland, No. 33 Oklahoma State, No. 34 SMU, TCU, No. 38 Tennessee, No. 14 Texas A&M, Texas State, Texas Tech, No. 37 Tulsa, UNLV, No. 41 UNT and UTSA.
Â
REPRESENTING UNT:Â Competing for the Mean Green will be Shreya Pal, Ellie Roth, Emilie Ricaud, Mason Lewis and Bouquet Subsomboon.
Â
RESULTS: Live scoring and final results will be posted on GolfStat. A full recap will be posted on MeanGreenSports.com at the end of each day.
AKERS SAYS: "The team is prepared and should be confident heading into the Houston event," head coach Michael Akers said. "We played well enough to win in the Bahamas but had some big numbers again. Mason will be in the lineup for the first time this spring and we are hoping she will produce like she did in the fall. Ellie should have momentum and has seen her hard work paying off. We have had success at this event and certainly know the course well. Last year was one of the highlights of my career when we defeated Southern Cal at this tournament."
MOVING UP: UNT has made significant strides since Akers took over eight years ago. The Mean Green were ranked No. 201 following the 2015-16 season, and since Akers arrived in Denton, UNT has soared more than 150 spots from that time. The Mean Green are now consistently ranked in the top 50 nationally and have qualified for three straight NCAA Regionals on the heels of three straight conference championships.
UP NEXT:Â The Mean Green will host The Bruzzy on March 30-31 at Dornick Hills in Ardmore, Oklahoma.Â
Â
STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITY: The Mean Green golf programs are thrilled to have the new Bruzzy's UNT Golf Practice Facility, which is a $3 million on-campus facility that features state-of-the-art technology, such as TrackMan, swing catalysts, indoor hitting bays, a short-game area and a PuttView indoor putting green.
