HOUSTON -Â Three UNT divers competed on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the NCAA Zone D Championship and ended their seasons at the University of Houston against some of the country's best.
Freshman Sydney Guidara, along with seniors Saylor Hawkins and Brigid Krbec all competed in the 1- and 3-meter springboard events, while Hawkins also competed in the platform event and finished 19th - the second-best finish in Zones in program history and just one spot off from qualifying for the final with a 203.40. On Monday, Guidara finished 27th in the 1-meter prelims with a 255.05. It was the fourth-best 1-meter finish at Zones in program history. She also led the way for the Mean Green in the 3-meter with a 31st-place finish with 262.55.
"I'm really proud of this group," diving coach Stephanie O'Callaghan said. "They've worked really hard all year long. The training post-conference is always grueling. They put so much mentally, emotionally and physically into conference and I am super proud of them for their effort and focus going into zones. We had some ups and downs but this is a very competitive zone with a lot of talented divers and they stuck together. We had a lot of really great moments and some really great dives. A huge congrats to Saylor and Brigid for their amazing careers at UNT. They will be missed, for sure, next year. I'm also really proud of Sydney. She held her own as a freshman and did really well with our highest finish on both the springboards. And Saylor just narrowly missed tower finals by one spot. She dove great. I'm really proud of all of them and the future ahead for this program."
