Simon Awarded AAC Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Infielder Cierra Simon was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week after she led UNT softball to five wins including a sweep at Memphis, the league announced on Monday.
Simon finished the week with a .400 batting average (8-for-20), 11 RBI and 16 total bases including two triples and one home run. She added five runs scored and two stolen bases. For the season, the Crockett, Texas native ranks top 10 in the conference with a .352 batting average, four triples and 96 defensive assists, each are career-high marks for the junior.
She is the third conference weekly honoree for UNT this season after Mackenzie Childers (March 18, April 1) and Skylar Savage (March 25) won AAC Pitcher of the Week. The award marks the first weekly honor of Simon's career and first for a Mean Green position player since Mikayla Smith was named Conference USA Player of the Week on April 17, 2023.
Senior right-handed pitcher McKenzie Wagoner earned her second consecutive AAC Honor Roll selection. She posted a 3-0 record including her fourth complete-game shutout of the season on Friday against Memphis. Wagoner registered 12 strikeouts and a 1.50 ERA over 14 innings of work. while allowing only one walk and seven hits.
The Mean Green travel to No. 6 Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. on Wednesday from Cowgirl Stadium. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
