DENTON — The UNT men's basketball team has signed transfer center Brock Vice.
The Memphis native will join the Mean Green after playing last season at Creighton and will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Coming out of high school in 2023, the 6-foot-10 big man was ranked as the No. 3 prep prospect from Tennessee and the No. 32 best center in the country by 247Sports. Vice, who graduated from Houston High School in Memphis and was coached by former NBA sharpshooter Mike Miller, led his prep squad as a sophomore to the 2021 3A Tennessee state championship where they defeated current Charlotte Hornets star Brandon Miller in the finals.
During his senior season, Vice averaged 17.5 points and 14.0 rebounds per game. After the year he was named one of three finalists for the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Mr. Basketball award, which is given to the best player in the state. He also earned all-district and all-region accolades following his senior season.
Along with Creighton, Vice held offers coming out of high school from Saint Louis, Appalachian State, Tulsa and Belmont among others.
While at Creighton last year, Vice and the Bluejays won 25 games, tied for second in the Big East standings and reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. During the regular season CU defeated both eventual national champion UConn and Final Four participant Alabama.
Vice did not play during the season for Creighton, earning a developmental redshirt. He did see action versus Wayne State in a preseason exhibition. In 10 minutes of action, Vice grabbed eight rebounds in a 95-48 win over Wayne State.
Along with his basketball success, Vice was a standout prep football player. He led Houston High School in both receptions and touchdowns and was an all-region honoree. His father, Vance, is the offensive line coach at UNLV.
North Texas is coming off a 19-win season under first-year head coach Ross Hodge where they reached the second round of the NIT. He was the only rookie head coach last year to lead his respective team to either the NCAA Tournament or NIT. The Mean Green won 10 league games in their first season in the American Athletic Conference. It was the most league wins by a first-year UNT head coach. UNT is one of just seven schools in the country who has won a NCAA national postseason game in each of the last four seasons.
