HUMBLE, Texas - Former UNT men's golfer Carlos Ortiz claimed the individual title and led his team, Cleeks GC, to a win at LIV Golf Houston on Sunday at the Golf Club of Houston.
Ortiz hit 17 of 18 greens in regulation in Sunday's final round to claim the victory to move into 11th place in the season standings, while Cleeks GC moved into seventh in the team standings with five events left until September's team championship at the home of Mean Green golf, Carrollton's Maridoe Golf Club.
The win in Houston was the second of Ortiz's pro career, as he claimed his lone PGA victory at the 2020 Houston Open. It was his first victory since the Asian Tour's Oman Open back in February.
He now will set his sights on qualifying for The Open Championship after narrowly missing out on qualifying for the U.S. Open, and he is currently on pace to represent Mexico in the Olympics this summer in Paris after representing his home country in the 2020 Tokyo Games, as well.
