GREENVILLE, North Carolina — Coming off its 6-0 home win over Temple on Thursday where head coach John Hedlund earned his 400th career victory, the UNT soccer team is on the road to face East Carolina on Sunday in Greenville, North Carolina.
First kick between the Mean Green (7-2-2, 3-0-0) and Pirates (4-2-4, 1-1-1) is scheduled for noon CT. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Sunday will be first time North Texas and ECU will face off in Greenville. The two teams met for the first time ever last season in Denton and played to a 2-2 draw. Current sophomore Mia Bernard scored in the draw last year. She will head into Sunday's match having scored in each of the Mean Green's last two games.
UNT is the only team in the American Athletic Conference that is 3-0. They are aiming on Sunday for its first 4-0 start to league play since 2019 when they started 4-0 in Conference USA and finished 7-2-1 in league and in second place. They'd go on to win the 2019 CUSA Tournament championship.
In the Mean Green's 6-0 home win over Temple, freshman Claire Niedermeier scored a hat trick. She is now tied with senior Rachel Roebuck for the league lead in goals scored and team lead with seven. Niedermeier's three goals on Thursday were scored over just 17 minutes of game action in the second half.
After Sunday's match at ECU, the Mean Green return home to host UTSA on Oct. 3.
