
Mean Green Travel To Rice Tuesday

HOUSTON — Coming off a home win over Tulane, the UNT men's basketball team travels to Rice on Tuesday.
The Mean Green (17-6, 8-3) and the Owls (12-12, 3-8) are scheduled to tip-off from Tudor Fieldhouse at 8 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield and on ESPNU.
North Texas had one of its best offensive performances of the season on Saturday in its 76-66 win over Tulane. The Mean Green tied their single game season high with 11 made 3-pointers and had an offensive efficiency rating of 135.8. The only game this season where UNT had a higher offensive efficiency rating was in its home matchup against Rice on Jan 8, which the Mean Green won 81-59.
Tuesday, UNT is aiming to win its fourth in a row overall against the Owls and its fifth straight at Tudor Fieldhouse. North Texas has not lost at Rice since Feb. 1, 2020, and leads the all-time series history in games played in Houston, 11-5.
With a win on Tuesday the Mean Green and head coach Ross Hodge can also set program history. The second-year UNT head coach has racked up so far 18 total league wins in his first two seasons as the Mean Green's head coach. It is tied with Tim Jankovich for most league wins in a UNT head coach's first two seasons in Denton. Jankovich was hired in 1993 and won nine Southland Conference games in each of his first two seasons as the Mean Green's head coach. Hodge won 10 league games last season in his first year and has led UNT to eight so far this year with seven more to go, including Tuesday.
After Tuesday's game in Houston, North Texas has an eight-day break before hosting Tulsa on Feb. 19. It will be the Mean Green's first and only regular season matchup against Tulsa.
