BOCA RATON, Florida — The UNT men's basketball team clinched a double bye and a spot in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 American Athletic Conference Tournament with a 71-61 road win over Florida Atlantic Thursday night.
The Mean Green (21-6, 12-3) led by just three at the half but outscored the Owls (15-13, 8-7) in the second half 34-27 and held them without a made field goal for a 10-minute and 54-second stretch in the second half.
North Texas was led in scoring by Brenen Lorient who scored 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting, grabbed eight rebounds and had a career high five assists. Lorient played at FAU from 2022-24.
UNT guard Atin Wright recorded his 100th career double digit scoring game as he finished with 13 points. Senior Rondel Walker matched his conference high with 10 points.
"This is a really difficult place to play and they're a really talented and good team," said head coach Ross Hodge of FAU. "Proud of how we competed in the second half and stuck together. This is a solid win."
The Mean Green have now won five in a row and next week host their final two home games of the regular season. They'll welcome Wichita State to the Super Pit on Monday and Charlotte on Thursday. At the conclusion of Thursday's UNT game, the Shockers have won a league leading six games in a row. They're hosting UAB Thursday night.
UNT concludes the regular season at Temple on March 9.
