UNT posts its fourth double-digit winning streak in program history, first since 2021
WACO, Texas – Mean Green softball extended its winning streak to 10 games after a 4-2 comeback win over Sam Houston and dramatic 6-5 victory against hosts Baylor at Getterman Stadium Friday.
In the opening game of the day, North Texas (15-2) recovered from an early one-run deficit versus the Bearkats (7-8) to collect its 10th win of the season when it has trailed or been tied.
Skylar Savage (W, 7-0) tossed 5 1/3 innings versus Sam Houston to collect her seventh win of the season without a loss against her ledger. Savage is the first UNT player since Janie Worthington (2021-22) to open a season with more than seven wins and zero losses in the circle after Worthington began the 2021 season with a 9-0 record.
Kailyn Bearpaw broke a fifth inning, 2-2 tie with an RBI single to score Riley McNemar before Cierra Simon added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI double, also scoring McNemar. Anneca Anderson (SV, 1) recorded the final five outs for her first career save.
In the afternoon contest against the Bears (7-9), the Mean Green tallied five runs in the first inning, including a pair of two-run singles by Elizabeth Moffitt and Ausha Moore, before adding a sixth in the third inning.
Baylor roared back with three of its five runs in the sixth inning before starting pitcher Anneca Anderson (W, 6-2) reentered the game with one out and two runners on base. She promptly recorded the final two outs of the sixth before retiring the side in order in the seventh inning.
Tatum Sparks and Simon each tallied hits in both contests to extend their parallel hitting streaks to 15 games, moving the pair into a tie for third place in program history. Sparks also holds the nation's longest consecutive games reached base streak at 24 games, the third-best spell in North Texas history.
