
Softball Falls to Baylor, CBU

WACO, Texas – UNT softball dropped two games Saturday with a 1-0 loss to CBU and 5-1 defeat against Baylor in the semifinal of the Baylor Invitational at Getterman Stadium.
Despite seven runners reaching base in the first game of the day, the Mean Green (15-3) suffered its first shutout of the season against the Lancers (9-11) with junior Tatum Sparks collecting the lone hit for North Texas.
Kayleigh Smith (L, 1-1) spun seven innings to set a new career high and record her first complete game while she allowed only one run on six hits and zero walks with one strikeout.
Riley McNemar was stationed at third base versus CBU and set a new program record with 11 defensive assists including six consecutive outs recorded by the junior in the fifth and sixth innings.
In the nightcap, starting pitcher Skylar Savage (L, 7-1) held the opposition in check for five innings before the Bears (10-9) posted five runs over the final two frames.
North Texas rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning after Riley McNemar tallied an RBI single to score Elizabeth Moffitt. McNemar and Madison Conley were left on base as the final two outs of the game were recorded.
Reaching base in both games, senior Cierra Simon extended her reached base streak to 17 games for the tenth-longest spell in program history.
