TROY, Ala. – UNT softball opens the 2025 season with a doubleheader on Friday at the Trojan Classic. The schedule begins at 9 a.m. versus Central Michigan before meeting Tennessee State at 11:30 a.m.
The weekend includes matchups against Samford and Troy on Saturday before closing with Central Michigan on Sunday at 9 a.m.
Saturday's game with Troy marks the 31st meeting in program history and first since North Texas collected a 5-2 win on May 10, 2013, in an elimination game of the Sun Belt Conference Championship hosted at the Troy Softball Complex. Troy ties Oklahoma and UTEP as the 10th-most common opponent as UNT holds the 16-14 edge in the matchup.
Over the 26-year history of the program, the Mean Green have never faced Central Michigan, Samford or Tennessee State.
UNT enters its second season in the American Athletic Conference after a third-place regular season finish and semifinals run at the AAC Championship last season. The Mean Green were voted to finish third in The American preseason coaches' poll, only two points behind regular season co-champions Florida Atlantic, and collected three first-place votes.
Head coach Rodney DeLong added 11 newcomers to his roster including eight incoming freshmen and three transfers, the second-largest influx of new faces to a UNT roster in program history. The Mean Green return all-conference performers Skylar Savage and Cierra Simon along with two-time AAC Pitcher of the Week Mackenzie Childers.
