DENTON — Two of the American Athletic Conference's top defenses face each other on Saturday afternoon at the Super Pit as the UNT men's basketball team hosts Tulane.
The Mean Green (16-6, 7-3) and Green Wave (13-10, 7-3) are scheduled to tip-off at 2 PM CT. The game will be broadcast on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield and on ESPN+.
Saturday will be the first meeting between the two schools this season. North Texas swept Tulane last year, beating them three times including an 81-71 victory in the second round of the 2024 AAC Tournament.
One of the Mean Green's best offensive performances last season was its home game against the Green Wave, which UNT won 70-56 behind a 37-point performance by Jason Edwards where he was 8 of 10 from 3-point range.
The Mean Green and Tulane each head into the matchup with a 7-3 league record and tied for third place in the AAC standings, two games back of conference leader Memphis.
North Texas enters Saturday's contest with a defensive rating of 96.6 (allowing 0.966 points per possession). Tulane's defensive rating is not too far behind at 104.1 (allowing 1.041 points per possession). The Green Wave though have ratcheted up the defensive prowess as of late as they have won three of their last four. The Green Wave held their last two opponents — Tulsa and UTSA — to 56 and 60 points, respectively.
The Mean Green have just four remaining home games including Saturday. The Pick and Roll Flex plan is back and gives UNT fans the option to purchase five, 10 or 20 tickets redeemable for games of their choice in general admission or baseline reserved sections. Use all the tickets for one game or spread them out throughout the rest of the season.
UNT is on the road following Saturday's game as they travel to Rice on Tuesday but they'll be back at the Super Pit on Feb. 19 versus Tulsa.
