Softball Sweeps Two Saturday

TROY, Ala. – UNT softball collected two wins on Saturday with a 7-4 comeback win over Samford before a 7-3 win against Troy at the Trojan Classic.
North Texas (3-1) posted its first double-digit hit total of the young season with 10 against Samford (0-1) as four players, including redshirt freshman Blayze McNemar, had multiple hits. McNemar drove in a career high three RBI and scored one run.
Down 4-1 to the Bulldogs entering the home half of the sixth inning, the Mean Green offense came to life with six runs including a two-run double with the bases loaded for McNemar. The inning marked the third six-plus run sixth inning in program history, first since plating nine at Kansas on April 22, 2022.
Kayleigh Smith (ND) drew her first career start in the circle as she gave up two runs over two innings before Anneca Anderson (W, 2-1) tossed innings three through six, striking out two.
After UNT's offensive outburst, Skylar Savage (SV, 1) locked down the seventh inning as she retired three batters on seven pitches for her eighth career save. Saturday's save marks Savage's first since May 21, 2022, when she closed the elimination game against Fordham at the NCAA Stillwater Regional.
In game two, Savage (W, 1-0) carried the Mean Green in the circle with a seven-inning, complete-game victory as she tallied seven strikeouts and zero walks. After falling behind Troy (2-1) by two runs in the first inning, the bats erupted for four runs in the third inning including RBI doubles from Cierra Simon and Kailyn Bearpaw.
Freshman Ausha Moore added to the lead in the fifth with a two-RBI double before scoring later in the frame. From the second to sixth innings, Savage only gave up one hit with six of her seven strikeouts over the spell.
