Softball Falls in Extra Innings

DENTON, Texas – UNT softball lost 4-2 in eight innings versus UT Arlington Wednesday night at Lovelace Stadium.
North Texas (19-10) forced extra innings after Elizabeth Moffitt hit a seventh-inning solo home run to tie at 2-2 but failed to close out the Mavericks (16-10) as they retaliated with two runs in the top half of the eighth.
The Mean Green opened the scoring in the fourth inning after Moffitt reached on an error to score Cierra Simon from third base. Despite scoring the run, Simon snapped her 26-game reached base streak which was only two games shy of the UNT program record.
Despite holding a 1-0 lead, Madison Conley broke up UTA's no-hit bid with a single in the fifth and would later collect her second stolen base of the season and second of her career.
Starting pitcher Kayleigh Smith (ND) spun the second-longest outing of her career with five innings pitched. She was lifted from the circle after a pair of runners reached base in the sixth inning and each would come home to score against her ledger.
Senior Emma Grahmann collected her first career start as an outfielder as she was stationed in left field on a brisk and breezy Wednesday evening. Grahmann and Ausha Moore gave North Texas hope in the bottom of the eighth after the pair posted back-to-back singles.
UNT had the bases loaded as the final out of the game was recorded after it stranded only two runners in the initial seven innings to lose their first extra-inning contest at home since May 7, 2023.
