DENTON, Texas – Mean Green softball begins a five-game homestand against No. 15 Oklahoma State Wednesday at 6 p.m. on ESPN+ from Lovelace Stadium.
UNT (16-4) returns to its friendly confines after a dramatic 6-5 win over No. 13 Texas Tech in the home opener on Feb. 26, and three-win weekend at the Baylor Invitational. Junior infielder Riley McNemar was named a weekly American Athletic Conference Honorable Mention selection after she led North Texas with a .357 batting average, four runs scored and five RBI including her walk-off grand slam against the Red Raiders.
The Cowgirls (14-4) hold a 10-game winning streak ahead of its midweek matchup with the Mean Green. Four of the past five meetings have been two-run games except for a 5-1 victory over then-No. 7 OSU at Lovelace Stadium on May 3, 2023. The win marked UNT's highest ranked home victory in program history.
Four-year senior Cierra Simon captured two program records against Sam Houston on Sunday with her 51st career stolen base and ninth career triple. She enters the week with an 18-game reached base streak which is the third-longest active spell in Division I. This season, Simon leads the Mean Green in batting average, slugging percentage, doubles and total bases.
Last week RHP Anneca Anderson spun a team high 20 1/3 innings and nine strikeouts as she tallied a 2-0 record, one save and 2.75 earned run average. Against Texas Tech on Feb. 26, Anderson provided a bridge for a six-run comeback as she allowed only three hits over 4 2/3 innings.
