Softball Stuns Owls in Ranked Road Victory

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Anneca Anderson recorded a 4-0 shutout over No. 25 Florida Atlantic as UNT softball won its series opener Friday at Joan Joyce Field.

North Texas (29-13, 11-5) is the first team to beat the Owls (34-7, 13-3) in an American Athletic Conference series opener this season. The last time FAU lost the opening game of a league series was at South Florida on April 26, 2024.

Anderson (W, 12-3) spun seven shutout innings with three strikeouts to become the second player in program history with a complete-game shutout win over a ranked opponent. She joined teammate Skylar Savage as the only two players on the illustrious list after she registered a seven-inning victory over then-No. 25 Nebraska at the NCAA Stillwater Regional on May 21, 2022.

The Mean Green did not have a batter reach base until the fourth inning and were held hitless through 5 2/3 innings before senior Cierra Simon connected for a three-run home run in the top of the sixth to break up the no-hitter. With the home run, Simon extended her conference hitting streak to 18 games which dates to May 3, 2024.

Elizabeth Moffitt followed Simon's three-run blast with her first career triple before reigning AAC Player of the Week Kailyn Bearpaw drove her in with an RBI double. In league contests, Bearpaw leads The American with 23 RBI.

Despite leadoff singles from the Owls in both the sixth and seventh innings, Anderson retired the side without incident to secure the ranked win.
