Softball Rally Falls Short

DENTON, Texas – Despite a seventh-inning rally, Mean Green softball fell 4-2 against South Florida on Friday at Lovelace Stadium.
UNT (33-15, 15-7) trailed the Bulls (37-13-1, 16-5-1) 4-0 as it entered the bottom of the seventh inning before Rylee Nicholson scored on a wild pitch and Ausha Moore crossed the plate as Riley McNemar collected an RBI single. Friday's loss dropped the Mean Green 1 1/2 games behind USF for second place in the American Athletic Conference standings.
The Mean Green matched its highest scoring season in program history, 2022, after it collected its 297th run of the year with McNemar's RBI single in the seventh.
Moore reached base safely in all three of her plate appearances as she finished 2-for-2 with one walk while Cierra Simon and Kailyn Bearpaw each tallied two-hit performances. Simon added her 20th stolen base and matched her season-high mark.
Skylar Savage (L, 15-7) tossed six innings in the loss and recorded one strikeout before Kayleigh Smith spun the final frame.
