Mean Green advance to third conference championship final in four years
TAMPA, Fla. – Anneca Anderson threw a seven-inning complete game shutout as Mean Green softball defeated RV Florida Atlantic 1-0 in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Championship on Friday at USF Softball Stadium. North Texas will meet hosts South Florida for the championship on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2.
UNT (36-20) scored the lone run of the game in the top of the fifth when senior Rylee Nicholson scored from first base on a lined single to right field by Blayze McNemar. She was able to safely advance to third before a bobble by the Owls (44-10) right fielder allowed Nicholson to cross the plate.
Anderson collected her fourth complete-game shutout of the season with two against Florida Atlantic after she did so at Joan Joyce Field on April 11. She also became the fifth player in program history to throw a complete-game shutout in a conference tournament game, the first since Ashley Peters (2022-23) in the CUSA Championship Final on May 14, 2022.
Anderson limited the Owls to three hits, one walk and one hit-by-pitch for a total of five base runners as she collected two strikeouts.
