DENTON — The UNT men's basketball team on Monday announced the signing of three standout incoming freshmen that includes the Gatorade Iowa Boys Basketball Player of the Year, a state champion and one of the best prep bigs in the highly competitive Overtime Elite league.
Logan Alexander
Incoming freshman Logan Alexander is a 6-foot-10 forward from Houston. He played last season for the New York based Overtime Elite team Our Savior Lutheran where he competed in the highly competitive eight-team academy league with some of the top collegiate and professional prospects. Alexander was one of the league's best lob threats and shot blockers. He averaged 1.6 blocks per game, which ranked sixth best in the league.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Logan Alexander to the Mean Green family," said North Texas head coach Daniyal Robinson. " Logan is a highly athletic forward who can play above the rim and protect the paint. Originally committed to us at Cleveland State, we're thrilled to now bring him closer to home here in Denton as he hails from Houston. LA joins us from Our Savior Lutheran that competes in the Overtime Elite league. We're excited about his development and the future he has ahead of him here at North Texas."
Alexander averaged 6.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game to go along with his 1.6 block average last season in the Overtime Elite league, which featured seven of 247Sports' top 125 players in the country. Recent OTE alums include NBA Draft lottery picks Rob Dillingham, Amen and Ausar Thomas and Alex Sarr.
The lengthy forward Alexander grew up in Houston and began his prep career at C.E. King High School where he was a two-time all-district honoree. In his final year at King before transferring to OTE, Alexander led his Panthers team to a 24-win season and the 2024 UIL State 6A regional quarterfinal round.
He is regarded as one of the top recruits from the state of Texas by 247Sports. He was originally committed to play for Robinson at Cleveland State before Robinson was hired at North Texas on April 4. In addition to UNT and Cleveland State, Alexander held offers from South Florida and Louisiana Tech among others.
Alexander is a triplet and has two sisters, Brooklyn and Kennedi, who play division I women's basketball.
EJ Horton
EJ Horton is a 6-foot-3 guard from Chicago but played his senior season last year at Orangeville Academy in Canada in the elite EYBL Scholastic League. Horton jumped on to the national scene his junior year when he led Phillips Academy in Chicago to the 2024 Illinois state title, its first state championship in 49 years.
"We're excited to welcome EJ to the Mean Green family," said North Texas head coach Daniyal Robinson. "EJ is an athletic and physical guard with a great motor. He thrives getting downhill and brings high energy on both ends of the floor. A high-character individual, EJ recently graduated and wrapped up his senior season at Orangeville Prep. Prior to that, he made a name for himself at Phillips Academy where he helped lead his team to a state championship. We're looking forward to EJ's continued growth and can't wait to see his impact here at North Texas.
This past year at Orangeville Academy, Horton averaged 11.0 points and 1.5 steals per game while playing against some of the nation's top prospects in the EYBL. The league featured 21 prospects in 247Sports' top 150 for the class of 2025.
Horton's scoring average ranked 25th in the league that has 14 schools including notable other programs such as IMG Academy, Monteverde Academy and Oak Hill Academy.
On Dec. 21, Horton led Orangeville to a 83-80 victory over eventual EYBL Scholastic regular season champion Wasatch Academy with a 23-point and eight-assist performance.
Following his senior season, Horton was invited to play in the 2025 Cwench All Canadian Games, which is an all-star game between the top high school seniors in all of Canada. Notable NBA players who recently played in past All Canadian Games include stars RJ Barrett, Lu Dort, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jamal Murray who also graduated from Orangeville Academy.
Horton transferred to Orangeville after leading Phillips Academy in Chicago to the 2024 state title and being voted to the five-man Illinois Media 2A First Team All-State team. He averaged more than 20 points per game for Phillips and led them to a 25-win season.
Horton also garnered attention that year after losing on Feb. 8 in the Chicago Public League Tournament semifinals headed into the state playoffs. Following the defeat, Horton announced his team wasn't losing another game that year. The words were prophetic as they won the next seven straight in route to the state championship.
