DENTON, Texas – The UNT men's golf team will return to the course to continue its fall season Friday and Saturday at the William H. Tucker Invitational at the UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
The Mean Green will roll out a lineup featuring two true freshmen in the second tournament of the season. Mitchell Maier led UNT at the Argent Financial Classic, finishing with a third-round 65 to end in a tie for seventh on the individual leaderboard, marking the third-lowest round by a UNT freshman since 1994 and the highest placement in a collegiate debut since Ian Snyman in 2015. Meanwhile, Rayhan Latief will make his collegiate debut with high expectations after coming to Denton ranked in the top 150 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
Sophomore Alex Huang will look to build upon a top-15 finish in Louisiana where he posted three under-par rounds to finish 5-under for the tournament. Central Arkansas transfers Noah Blaickner and Kalle Svederman will round out the UNT lineup for the two-day tournament.
"We have been training hard this week and continuing to establish our routine and effort in practice," head coach Luke Calcatera said. "I'm excited to see all that effort turn into some great golf this week in New Mexico.
The Mean Green will play 36 holes on Friday before wrapping up The Tucker with Saturday's final round against a field of teams that includes USC, Colorado, Rice, and host school, New Mexico, among others. The tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. CT on Friday, with UNT starting on holes 15-18.
North Texas placed ninth as a team in its first tournament of the season, responding with scores of 282 and 277 after a first-round 296. Maier and Huang were the top two placers for UNT, while Svederman, who played as an individual, finished tied for 48th and Blaickner tied for 52nd.
Live scoring will be available throughout the tournament on Clippd.
