Mean Green Wrap Up First Day of The Tucker

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – True freshman Mitchell Maier continued an impressive start to his college career as he leads the UNT men's golf team through the first two rounds at the William H. Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque.

After claiming a seventh-place finish at the Argent Financial Classic that was the highest placement by a true freshman in their collegiate debut since 2015, Maier posted rounds of 73 and 70 Friday. He sits in a tie for 36th at 2-under par.

The Mean Green jumped out to an early lead in the team standings during the first round behind Noah Blaickner's 2-under-par 70. The senior was 3-under through 12 holes before coming in 1-over on the final six. True freshman Rayhan Latief also helped UNT's hot start with a run of four birdies in five holes on the front nine during the first round of the day. He finished the day at 2-over-par 146 after a pair of 73s on the scorecard.

Kalle Svederman put together the round of the day for North Texas with a 69 in the second round. Svederman turned it around after carding a 78 in the first round with a strong final nine holes which he played 3-under.

Much like it did at the Argent Financial Classic where they posted scores of 282 and 277 after a first-round score of 296, North Texas will look to bounce back on Saturday.
