Men’s Golf Wraps Up Final Regular Season Tournament

WEST POINT, Miss. – The UNT men's golf team wrapped up play at the Mossy Oak Collegiate Tuesday, completing its final regular season tournament in 13th place.
North Texas entered Tuesday within striking distance of another top-five placement but was unable to make up the necessary ground after combining for an 11-over final round. That score put it at 26-over for the week and ahead of six other teams, including American Conference opponent Rice. Host Mississippi State and No. 15 Ole Miss tied for the team championship at 17-under.
After an opening 75 Monday, Mitchell Maier responded with back-to-back 1-over rounds to lead the Mean Green in a tie for 37th. The true freshman ends his first regular season with a 73.13 stroke average and takes some momentum into the conference tournament after shooting 3-under over the final eight holes of Tuesday's round.
Blake Keen closed the week with a 79, landing him in a tie for 45th at 7-over. Just behind Keen was Kalle Svederman (+8) and Alex Huang (+9), who concluded play tied for 53rd and 60th, respectively. Meanwhile, Rafael Estrada contributed a counting score of 76 on Tuesday to close his first start of the year.
The Mean Green now turn their attention to the American Conference Championship in Sarasota, Fla., on April 27-29. They will be looking to punch their ticket to an NCAA Regional with a victory.
