DENTON – The UNT men's basketball team aims to extend its 14-game Super Pit win streak as they host one of the league's top offenses in South Florida Wednesday night.
The Mean Green (10-5, 1-1) and Bulls (8-6, 0-1) are scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield on KHYI 95.3 FM and on ESPN+.
Wednesday will be just the third all-time meeting between North Texas and USF. They have split the previous two meetings with the Mean Green winning the most recent matchup, 64-57, in Tampa last season.
North Texas fans will be familiar with the Bulls' new head coach Bryan Hodgson as he previously was the head coach at Arkansas State who UNT defeated last year at home in the second round of the NIT, 65-63. The Bulls' roster this year features two players who started for that Arkansas State team last year, most notably Izaiyah Nelson who in the NIT matchup scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.
USF heads into Wednesday night's matchup with the American Conference's top scoring offense, averaging 92.1 points per game. UNT, however, owns the league's top scoring defense as they hold opponents to just 63.4 points per game. The Mean Green are coming off a 62-57 victory over Tulsa on Sunday where they held a Golden Hurricane offense 22 points below their scoring average.
Wednesday also features contrasting styles as the Bulls play with one of the nation's quickest tempos while UNT plays with one of its most deliberate.
SIX 20-POINT GAMES
Je'Shawn Stevenson recorded his sixth 20-point game of the year on Sunday versus Tulsa as he finished with 21 points, all of which he scored in the second half. His six 20-point games this year ranks third in the American.
14 STRAIGHT AT THE SUPER PIT
North Texas enters Wednesday having won 14 straight games at the Super Pit and 25 of its last 26 dating back to last season.
WON 10 OF FIRST 15
Daniyal Robinson has won 10 of his first 15 games as UNT's head coach. Robinson, Ross Hodge (2023-24) and Bill Blakeley (1975-76) are the only UNT head coaches to win at least 10 of their first 15 respective games as UNT's head coach.
DEFENDING THE ARC
UNT enters Wednesday with the American's best and the nation's 18th best 3-point defense. UNT opponents are shooting just 28.2 percent from deep against the Mean Green.
