Mean Green Pull Away Late To Beat Memphis, 76-69

DENTON – The UNT men's basketball team held Memphis scoreless for the final two minutes and 19 seconds and ended the game on a 7-0 run to beat the Tigers by seven, 76-69, at the Super Pit Thursday night.
North Texas (14-11, 5-7) was led in scoring by sophomore Je'Shawn Stevenson who scored 16 points. It was his 15th straight game in double figures and his 23rd game of the year. David Terrell and Reece Robinson also scored in double figures Thursday as they combined for 26 points in the win over Memphis (12-12, 7-5).
"I'm really proud of our guys," said UNT head coach Daniyal Robinson. "We anticipated a physical game and I'm proud with how our guys competed. And it's always good to protect home court."
The Mean Green attempted a season high 41 free throws Thursday. It's their most free throw attempts in a single game since 2018. Terrell scored eight of his 14 points at the line.
With two minutes and 19 seconds remaining, Memphis' Sincere Parker knocked down two free throws to tie the game at 69. However, UNT locked in defensively as they forced three turnovers and held the Tigers scoreless from there on out.
Terrell pushed the Mean Green's lead to an important two possessions with just over one minute to go as he sliced through the defense and finished at the basket through traffic. UNT then closed the game out by making three free throws to seal the seven-point win.
The win marks North Texas' second straight home win over the Tigers.
Next up for the Mean Green is a road trip to Philadelphia as they take on Temple Sunday afternoon.
