Softball Closes Tournament Slate at No. 2 Texas Tech

Mean Green set to meet Texas Tech, ACU and Detroit Mercy at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic
LUBBOCK, Texas – UNT softball will meet No. 2 Texas Tech in two games at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic beginning at 5 p.m. Friday at Rocky Johnson Field with the rematch set to close the tournament Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
Both games against the Red Raiders will be streamed on ESPN+. The Mean Green will also meet Abilene Christian in two games, Friday at noon and Saturday at 2 p.m., along with Detroit Mercy at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Fresh off a five-win week, North Texas (7-10) will look to extend its recent spell as the team led all of Division I with 74 hits and 16 doubles by the offense while the bullpen supplied 52 strikeouts from Feb. 16-22. Over this period, Elizabeth Moffitt posted the national lead with 14 hits as Anneca Anderson tied for the most strikeouts at 29.
Nationally ranked Texas Tech (16-1) have won its past five games after a 3-2 loss to then-No. 11 Nebraska at the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational on Feb. 15. The Mean Green trail the all-time series 8-14 but won its last game at Rocky Johnson Field, 11-3, in six innings over the Red Raiders on March 6, 2022.
Abilene Christian (1-13) recorded its first win of the season at home Friday with a 7-6 victory in game one of a doubleheader over New Mexico. UNT leads the series 10-3 with eight consecutive victories, dating back to Feb. 15, 2020.
Detroit Mercy (2-7) dropped three of four games at the Hilltopper Classic hosted at WKU last weekend as it opened the tournament with a 10-9 win over Butler in eight innings on Friday. Saturday will mark UNT's second meeting against the Titans after a 6-0 win on Feb. 14, 2009, at the Corpus Christi Invitational.
