LAKE CHARLES, La. – UNT head softball coach Cody White recorded his first win at the helm of the program with a 5-4 victory over ULM on Sunday at Cowgirl Stadium.
"I'm proud to lead this team but all credit goes to them for today's win," White said. "We put ourselves in a tough spot early, but we fought our way out to end the weekend on a high note."
The Mean Green (1-4) trailed the Warhawks (1-4) by three runs after the top of the third inning before scoring five unanswered runs, including home runs from freshman Kaycee Slovak and junior transfer Bradi Harman.
Harman extended her hitting streak to five games while Elizabeth Moffitt scored and collected a hit in her fourth straight contest. Through the initial five games of the season, Moffitt is 6-for-14 with five extra-base hits, including three home runs, five runs scored and six RBI.
In the circle, senior Britney Lewinski (W, 1-2) retired seven of the first eight batters she faced after she entered the game with two outs in the third inning. She finished with six strikeouts over 4 1/3 innings pitched and allowed only two hits to earn her first victory with the Mean Green.
North Texas travels to Mississippi State for The Snowman: Alex Wilcox Memorial tournament beginning with a Friday doubleheader against Murray State at 10 a.m. and Rutgers at 5:30 p.m.
