Men’s Golf in Fourth After Two Rounds at All-American Intercollegiate

HUMBLE, Texas – The UNT men's golf team is in fourth place at the All-American Intercollegiate after 36 holes of play Monday.
Battling low temperatures and strong winds, North Texas shot 39-over and sits one stroke ahead of Rice and Abilene Christian, who are tied for fifth. The Mean Green adjusted to the difficult conditions as the day went on, improving their score by 13 strokes from the first round to the second. Fourth-ranked Arkansas leads the field at 21-over while Eastern Michigan and Tarleton State trail close behind at 23- and 25-over, respectively.
Fresh off the best performance of his freshman campaign, Rayhan Latief once again led the Mean Green with a 7-over day that put him inside the top 10. He has enjoyed a nice spring season thus far, placing eighth last week at the Louisiana Classics and top 20 finishes in the two tournaments prior.
Joining Latief in the top 20 was Mitchell Maier, who shot 9-over to land in a tie for 16th. Maier's day was propelled by a strong start that included three birdies in his first seven holes, which also had him atop the leaderboard for much of the first round.
Alex Huang and Joe Stover each fired second rounds of 76 to conclude the day in T24 and T36, respectively. If Huang were to maintain his position Tuesday, it would mark his fourth top-25 finish in as many tries this spring. Blake Keen will look to rebound after a 16-over day netted him a tie for 53rd.
In the individual competition, Rafael Estrada signed off on back-to-back rounds of 77 to take a top-five spot on the leaderboard. A productive third round on Tuesday would likely earn Estrada the highest finish of his career, which was 25th at the Aggie Invitational last year.
Once again playing at the Golf Club of Houston's Tournament Course, the final round will begin at 8:00 a.m. and can be followed live here.
