Mean Green hand Roadrunners its first conference loss of the season

SAN ANTONIO – UNT softball collected an 11-6 win over UTSA on Saturday afternoon at Roadrunner Field and tied the American Conference series at one game apiece.

North Texas (17-14, 7-1) reached double-digit runs for the first time in conference play this season as it snapped the Roadrunners (18-14, 7-1) undefeated start in the American. In addition, South Florida (25-9, 7-1 American) fell at Tulsa to create a three-way tie atop the league standings entering Sunday's slate.

Scoring in five of seven innings, the Mean Green lineup finished with 15 hits including five players with multi-hit performances. Both Bradi Harman and Kaycee Slovak tallied three hits while Eva Daniels, Madison Conley and Taylor Platt each posted two.

Starting pitcher Anneca Anderson (W, 7-3) collected the win as she tossed 4 1/3 innings with three strikeouts before she was relieved by Kayleigh Smith who threw the final 2 2/3 innings.

Entering the bottom of the fifth, North Texas held an 8-0 lead before the Roadrunners cut the lead in half to extend the game before freshman Laila Nobles recaptured the momentum with a three-run home run to deep center in the top half of the sixth for an 11-4 lead.

Smith induced a pair of double plays in the final two innings and secured the victory despite UTSA adding two runs in the seventh inning.

The Mean Green are set up for a rubber match at noon Sunday on ESPN+ from Roadrunner Field.
