UNT records third win of the season over ACU
DENTON – Mean Green softball won 5-3 over Abilene Christian on Wednesday night at Lovelace Stadium.
UNT (19-14) extended its winning streak against the Wildcats (4-27) to 11 games, including three victories this season. Kaycee Slovak posted a career high three RBI while Madison Conley tied her career high with three runs scored, including a key home run in the fifth inning.
Starting pitcher Anneca Anderson (W, 8-3) held ACU to three runs over five innings, striking out two, before Kayleigh Smith unofficially recorded a hold with a perfect sixth inning and Britney Lewinski (S, 3) secured the victory with a clean seventh inning.
North Texas opened the scoring in the first inning with three runs after Ariah Mitchell scored on a wild pitch and Slovak collected a two-run double.
The Mean Green added another run in the third inning as Slovak collected her third RBI of the night on a ground out.
The Wildcats clawed its way back with a run in the third, fourth and fifth innings to cut the lead to one run at 4-3 before Conley ambushed ACU reliever Makayla Valle with a first-pitch home run to deep left center.
Conley became the eighth-fastest player in UNT history to reach 10 home runs in a season as she reached the mark in 33 games, besting Susan Waters (2007) who accomplished the same feat in 34 games. The home run also tied Conley for the longest hitting streak in program history at 19 games, needing one hit to break the 10-year record of Kelli Schkade from 2016.
In addition to the home run, Conley reached base in all three plate appearances with a hit-by-pitch in the first and a walk in the third.
North Texas visits Charlotte (17-15, 4-5 American) for a three-game series, beginning Friday at 5 p.m. CT on ESPN+ from Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium.
