DENTON, Texas – The UNT men's golf team is set to host its annual home tournament this week with the Maridoe Collegiate in Carrollton, Texas. Playing at the prestigious Maridoe Golf Club, an elite 13-team field will play 36 holes Monday before a closing 18 the following morning.
Perhaps UNT's toughest competition of the season, the Maridoe Collegiate features several of the highest-ranked programs in the nation, such as No. 7 Oklahoma State, No. 9 Arizona State, No. 15 Oklahoma and No. 16 Alabama. Oklahoma claimed the team title in last year's event by 16 strokes over runner-up Oklahoma State, who went on to win the NCAA championship in May.
The field also includes Baylor, Boston College, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Sam Houston, UNC Greensboro and UTRGV, as well as a host of the country's top individual players like Oklahoma State's No. 3 Preston Stout, Oklahoma's No. 12 Ryder Cowan, Alabama's No. 13 William Jennings and Arizona State's No. 14 Michael Mjaaseth. In addition, Sooner Jase Summy returns to Maridoe to defend his individual title from 2025.
Once again featuring four underclassmen, the Mean Green lineup this week is Mitchell Maier, Blake Keen, Alex Huang, Rayhan Latief and Kalle Svederman. Meanwhile, Joe Stover, Rafael Estrada, Noah Blaickner and Alvaro Roldos will all compete as individuals.
UNT is coming off a challenging test at the All-American Intercollegiate in Humble, Texas, where cold temperatures and strong winds contributed to its 50-over, sixth-place finish. Maier was the top Mean Green performer there, taking 19th for the sixth top 25 placement of his freshman campaign. He now leads the UNT lineup for the first time season, while Keen takes the No. 2 spot looking to improve upon his T6 finish at last year's event.
North Texas has already finished fourth-or-better three times this season, including back-to-back runner-up performances to open the spring schedule. It placed seventh at the Maridoe Collegiate last year but won the event back in 2024.
The Maridoe Collegiate is scheduled to begin Monday at 8:00 a.m. CT with a shotgun start. Fans can attend free of charge or follow the action live here.
