DENTON – Anneca Anderson tossed a seven-inning complete game as Mean Green softball captured a 5-1 win over ECU at Lovelace Stadium on Friday night.
Anderson (W, 11-4) led UNT (23-18, 12-4) to its fifth American Conference series opening win of the season as she struck out five East Carolina (24-19, 8-8) batters including inning-ending strikeouts in the fifth and sixth.
She collected career win No. 25 in a Mean Green uniform as she tied for 10th place on the program's all-time career leaderboard with current pitching coach McKenzie (Wagoner) Onyango. Anderson sits at 33 victories in her collegiate career after she tallied eight as a freshman at Tulsa in 2024.
North Texas opened the scoring in the first inning after a sacrifice fly from Elizabeth Moffitt scored freshman Eva Daniels. The Mean Green improved to 11-4 when scoring in the first inning, including a 7-1 mark during conference play.
The two teams traded scoreless frames for the next three and a half innings before Madison Conley posted an RBI double followed by Moffitt driving in pinch runner Lianna Hull on a first-pitch RBI single down the left field line.
After a pitching change from the Pirates, Bradi Harman drove a two-run home run over the left field wall to give UNT a 5-0 lead. The home run marked the first for Harman at Lovelace Stadium and third overall of the season.
Centerfielder Taylor Platt dazzled the home crowd with a running putout in the sixth after ECU broke up the shutout with a leadoff home run. With two outs in the frame, the Pirates loaded the bases before Anderson notched her fourth strikeout of the game to end the threat.
The Mean Green finish the series with a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. with game three to follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game two. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ while fans can purchase tickets HERE.
