ABILENE, Texas – Mean Green softball secured a 9-7 win Wednesday night over Abilene Christian at Poly Wells Field as freshman Eva Daniels notched six RBI.
For the night, North Texas (25-19) finished 8-for-17 with runners on base as UNT secured its fourth win of the season and 12th consecutive overall against the Wildcats (6-33).
Daniels set the program freshman record with six RBI in a game as she collected a bases-clearing double in the first inning before a three-run home run in the fifth that provided the necessary insurance for the win.
The Mean Green opened the game with a five-run flurry in the first to establish a new season-high mark and most since scoring six runs in the first against Wichita State at the American Conference Championship Quarterfinals on May 8, 2025.
Four consecutive singles in the opening stanza ignited the UNT offense as Kaycee Slovak and Riley McNemar drove in the game's first two runs before Daniels cleared the bases with her three-run double.
After the Wildcats retaliated with two runs in the second, the Mean Green collected one in the fourth before Daniels dropped her third home run of the season to give her team a 9-2 advantage.
ACU fought back with two runs in the sixth before adding three more in the seventh to cut the lead to 9-7. Starting pitcher Britney Lewinski (W, 13-9) tossed six innings before Kayleigh Smith (S, 1) entered the game with zero outs and a runner at third base in the seventh inning.
After walking the first batter, Smith held the Wildcats scoreless as the hosts failed to advance its runners despite having the winning run at the plate three times.
The Mean Green return to American Conference play as it visits Memphis for a three-game series beginning Friday at 5 p.m. with streaming coverage on ESPN+ from Tigers Softball Complex. UNT holds a 10-1 advantage in the series, including conference sweeps each of the past two seasons.
