Softball Begins American Conference Championship Wednesday

Mean Green set 20th conference championship tournament appearance in program history
IRVING, Texas – UNT softball will compete at the 2026 American Conference Championship as the No. 6 seed, beginning Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT from Max R. Joyner Family Stadium in Greenville, N.C.
The Mean Green (27-27, 14-13) received a bye to the second round and will meet the first-round winner between No. 7 UTSA (23-32, 11-16) or No. 10 Memphis (18-38, 6-21) Wednesday night on ESPN+.
North Texas closed the season with a 5-3 road loss to co-conference champions and No. 1 seeded South Florida on Saturday.
This season, UNT defeated UTSA in two of three meetings while it dropped two games against Memphis. The winner of the second-round matchup will take on tournament hosts East Carolina on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. CT.
Last season, the Mean Green made its third conference championship finals appearance as it defeated Wichita State and Florida Atlantic before falling to hosts South Florida 5-4 in the title game. In its third season in the league, North Texas holds a 4-2 record in American Conference Championship games.
