Andre Shaw joined the Mean Green staff in June of 2021 as the director of internal operations and was promoted to on-court assistant coach while maintaining operation duties during the summer of 2023 after Ross Hodge was elevated to the head coach position. Shaw, who began his coaching career in 2013, enters the 2024-25 season with 11 years of coaching experience.
In Shaw's three seasons on UNT's staff, the Mean Green have posted a combined 75-26 (.742) overall record. The Mean Green won the 2023 NIT championship, set the single season program record for total wins twice and have posted a 38-9 (.808) combined record at home. Shaw has helped mentor UNT players to 12 all-conference honors including 2023 Conference USA Player of the Year Tylor Perry.Â
In addition to operational duties, Shaw oversees player development and scouting for the Mean Green. During the summers, Shaw is the head coach of the North Texas TBT team Bleed Green, which in 2023 reached the championship game of the single elimination 64-team tournament that has a grad prize of $1 million.
From 2013-18, Shaw coached at Midwestern State under Nelson Haggerty who later joined the North Texas staff from 2019-21. The Mustangs won more than 20 games in three of those five seasons. He worked as a position coach at MSU and mentored a pair of first-team all-conference guards in Monzaigo Williams and future UNT graduate assistant Bretson McNeal.
A New York City native and 2013 graduate from Western New England, Shaw has been instrumental to his teams' success over the years. During his seven seasons coaching in the Lone Star Conference, Shaw guided and recruited numerous all-league performers and was critical to multiple conference championships and a NCAA DII regional championship game appearance during that span.
At Eastern New Mexico, Shaw was promoted to Associate Head Coach after in his first season when the Greyhounds saw significant improvement under his tutelage. ENMU had its best finish in conference play in over four years and the first winning record in league play in nearly 10 years.
Shaw was a standout guard at DIII Western New England. He scored 1,143 points in three seasons and averaged 15.0 points per game during his career. Shaw's father, LeRoy Shaw, was a standout guard at Midwestern State from 1972-76 and scored 1,759 points in his four seasons at MSU.Â
