Head Coach Rodney DeLong announced the hiring of Dillon Bryant as the Mean Green’s Assistant Coach on June 13, 2018.
Bryant is in his third season as an Assistant on DeLong’s staff at North Texas and works with the Mean Green outfielders and assists with the team’s offensive approach.
During his time in Denton, Bryant worked with 2019 First Team All-Conference outfielder and 2020 Preseason All-Conference USA outfielder Katie Clark. During a two-year span, Clark posted batting averages of .404 as a junior and .364 as a senior. Her average as a junior is the best single-season average in program history and led Conference USA in 2019 and her .384 career average is the best average in program history.
During 2020, all of North Texas’ primary outfielders posted a fielding percentage of .900 or better (Hanna Rebar - .966, Tarah Hilton - .952, Kenzie Young - .933 and Katie Clark - .917) while only committing six total errors in 24 games. In 2019, the Mean Green outfield didn’t have a single primary fielder with a fielding percentage under .925 (Hannah Gerecke and Hanna Rebar - 1.000, Katie Clark - .980 and Kenzie Young- .925).
A native of Cache, OK, Bryant came to Denton after serving as an assistant under DeLong at Austin Peay during the 2018 season. While at Peay, Bryant helped lead the Governors to the best single-season turnaround after going 39-19 with a 12-4 mark at home in 2018 after a 17-31 record in 2017. In 2018 the Governors posted a team fielding percentage of .963.
Bryant first coached with DeLong as a Student Assistant in 2013 at Cameron University, followed by being elevated to a Graduate Assistant in 2015 and remaining on the Cameron coaching staff through the spring of 2017.
During his time on the Cameron coaching staff, the Aggies posted a 138-79 overall record, including a single-season record 41 wins in 2015. He also helped lead the Aggies to their first two D2 NCAA Tournament appearances in 2014 and 2015.
The Aggies set 11 school records while Bryant was on staff, including batting average, home runs, RBIs, runs, walks, stolen bases and slugging percentage. Bryant was also at Cameron during a time where the Aggies had 12 All Lone star Conference performers, seven All-Region selection, two All-American and the 2015 Lone Star Conference Newcomer of the Year in Lauren Renneker.
Bryant started his college career at Seward County Community College (Kansas), where he played in 19 games and hit .333 in 39 at bats as a freshman. He helped the 2011 squad to a Jayhawk Conference championship and a trip to the JUCO World Series, where the Saints finished fifth.
Bryant first met DeLong when he played baseball during his time as the head coach at Cache High School (OK). As a senior he was named to the Large School All-State team as a second baseman after hitting .461 with 11 triples while helped cache to the regional finals.
The Cache, Oklahoma native graduated from Cameron University in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in sport and exercise science before earning a master’s degree in education and administration also from Cameron in 2017. Dillon and his wife Misty have one son, Brooks.
