Cole Hedlund joined the Mean Green soccer staff during the summer of 2020. As the director of operations his responsibilities are for coordinating team travel, team academics, player and team video, on-campus recruiting visits, the walk-on program and housing and meal programs for student-athletes. He will assist with summer camps, overseeing the program’s compliance paperwork, scheduling, ordering team equipment, organizing community service outings and serving as the high school coaches liaison.
Hedlund is a 2019 North Texas graduate and former Mean Green football player.
He joined the Mean Green in 2018 as a graduate transfer and was voted first-team all-conference as he finished the year 19 of 22 on field goals and ranked 24th nationally in scoring (108 points). He was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award, which is given to the nation's top kicker. On Sept. 15 at Arkansas, Hedlund made all three field goal attempts and all five PAT attempts to help lead UNT to the 44-17 road victory over the Razorbacks.
He made his first 10 field goal attempts in 2018 and made a season-long 52-yard field goal Oct. 6 at UTEP.
Before transferring to North Texas, Hedlund was the starting kicker for Arkansas and finished his time in Fayetteville, AR., making 91 consecutive PATs. In 2015, he tied the school-record for PATs in a season with 58. His career long for Arkansas was a 45-yard field goal at No. 19 Ole Miss on Nov. 7, 2015.Â
Hedlund is a 2014 graduate of Argyle High School. He helped lead the Eagles to the 2013 Texas 3A D2 State Championship. As a high school senior, he was named a Parade All-American and first-team All-USA by USA Today and won the prestigious Chris Sailer Award as the top high school kicker in the nation his senior year.
Hedlund signed with the Indianapolis Colts on May 5, 2019 going 6 of 8 on field goals and 3 of 3 on PATs in all four preseason games that season.
