Waters Hits Two Homers In 9-1 Mean Green Win

DENTON (3/20/04)- Freshman Susan Waters propelled the Mean Green offense with two home runs in the North Texas softball team’s 9-1 victory against Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday afternoon at Denia Park.
North Texas (8-34) snapped a 10-game losing streak with the victory and tied a season high with nine scored runs. The Mean Green lost the second half of the doubleheader, 2-1, in extra innings.
Freshman Katy Maxey won her sixth game of the season. She allowed four hits and one earned run over three innings of work in the first game. Sophomore Raci Burnett pitched two innings of relief, allowing one hit and striking out two.
Maxey got the offense going in the first inning with a double to left center. Freshman Heather Bostic knocked her in with an RBI single. Waters hit her first home run of the day to give the Mean Green a 3-0 lead. Maxey is tied for the team lead with six doubles.
The Mean Green added two more runs in the next inning after singles by Brittiny Chapman and Kelei Walker and two Ranger errors. Waters recorded her second home run in the third inning, and Bostic posted another RBI single in the fourth to seal the five inning, 9-1 win. Waters is tied for the team lead with four home runs.
Chapman hit her fourth home run of the year with a long-ball hit in the third inning of the second game. The Mean Green held the Rangers scoreless until the sixth inning when NWOSU scored off two singles and an NT error.
After the Rangers scored a run in the top of the eighth, North Texas was unable to get on base in the bottom half of the inning.
North Texas hosts UT-Arlington on Tuesday, March 23 at 7 pm at Denia Park.
