Waters Hits Another Long Ball In NT Loss

DENTON (3/23/04)- Freshman Susan Waters hit her third home run in a four-day span in the North Texas softball team’s 10-2 loss to UT Arlington on Tuesday evening at Denia Park.
UTA (13-15-1) evens the series at 1-1 with the victory. The Mean Green (8-35) defeated the Mavericks, 4-3, on February 22.
Waters hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season in the fourth inning to bring the Mean Green within three, 5-2. The Mavericks stopped NT’s momentum when Katie Singleton hit a three-run homer for UTA in the sixth inning. UTA tacked on two more runs in the inning to go ahead, 10-2.
The Mavericks scored five runs in the second and sixth innings off nine total hits and three Mean Green errors.
Waters went 2-for-3 in the game with one RBI. Freshman Katy Maxey posted her team-leading seventh double in the fifth inning.
Singleton led the Mavericks with three hits and five RBI. Lauren Herbert took the win for UTA. She pitched four innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs.
North Texas returns to action on Friday, March 26 when it hosts the Mean Green/Wells Fargo Classic. The Mean Green plays Harvard at 3 pm.
