Mean Green Loses Two Games In Conference Doubleheader

DENTON (4/18/04)- Middle Tennessee State combined for 26 hits to take two wins from the North Texas softball team on Sunday afternoon at Denia Park.
NT (16-45, 1-7 Sun Belt Conference) lost to the Lady Raiders, 16-2 and 11-1, in the two games. MTSU (24-14, 6-2 Sun Belt Conference) took three out of the four games in the weekend series. The 14-run deficit in the first game was the largest of the season for the Mean Green.
The Mean Green jumped on the scoreboard first, scoring two runs off a Mandy Hacker single in the first inning of the first game.
The Lady Raiders responded with four runs, including a two-run homer, in the third inning to take the lead. MTSU used a 12-run, eight-hit fourth inning to secure the win. North Texas made a season-high five errors in the loss.
Middle Tennessee State continued its offensive output in the second game with 14 hits. Cortney Mitchell hit a two-run homer in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead. The fifth inning was the big inning for the Lady Raiders in the second game, scoring five runs off three hits.
Freshman Susan Waters hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to put North Texas on the scoreboard.
North Texas returns to action on Wednesday, April 21 when it travels to Arlington to face UT-Arlington for the third time this season. The first pitch is set for 7 pm.
