Segal Resigns As Mean Green Softball Coach

DENTON - University of North Texas head softball coach Stacey Segal has resigned, effective immediately Athletic Director Rick Villarreal announced today. Assistant coach Angie Scharnhorst will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
“After meeting with coach Segal today she has informed me of her desire to resign as head softball coach at North Texas effective immediately,” Villarreal said. “It was mutually acceptable that her decision was in the best interest of her professional career. We wish her nothing but success in her future endeavors.”
Segal was named the first head coach in the new era of Mean Green softball on August 14, 2002 after spending the previous four years at Navarro College. She was 16-46 this season including a 1-7 record in Sun Belt Conference games.
North Texas is fielding a softball team in 2004 for the first time in 16 years. For four years from 1985-88, the Mean Green sanctioned a team while it was a member of the Southland Conference.
